Netball Manawatū Launches Inspiring 2025 Under 14 Campaign

Netball Manawatū is proud to kick off the 2025 representative season with the announcement of its Under 14 Green and White teams, including two development sides—highlighting a new generation of netball talent and a coaching group focused on development, inclusivity, and emerging talent.

This year’s programme reflects the continued strength of Netball Manawatū’s development systems and community support. General Manager Ashleigh-Kate Araroa-Waerea expressed pride in the growth across all areas of the organisation:

“It’s exciting to see the development of all involved this season. We have some extremely skilful and passionate coaches, many of whom have stepped into Head Coach roles or are leading top teams. Their growth is just as important as our athletes’ development.

“The calibre of players coming through, along with the number of returning athletes each year, is a true testament to the dedication of our staff and volunteers. They invest countless hours to ensure this programme remains as inclusive and diverse as possible.”

Inclusivity and support remain at the heart of the Under 14 space, with Netball Manawatū welcoming the return of experienced coaches Janine Williams and Tui Love (recent recipient of a Netball Manawatū Service Award) to support the Development teams for the 2025 season.

“Our Betty Steffensen Programme continues to thrive, offering meaningful opportunities for all involved,” added Araroa-Waerea. “The most rewarding part of this journey is seeing the inclusivity and diversity we’re able to deliver across every age group. That’s something I’m truly proud of.”

A Focus on Growth: On and Off the Court

At the coaching helm of the Manawatū Under 14 Green team are Asti Quinlan (Head Coach) and Kelsi Marsh (Assistant Coach), who are inspired by both the athletic potential of the team and the chance to build a strong culture:

“We’re genuinely excited about the talent in this year’s U14 Green team. These athletes bring a great mix of skill, athleticism, and determination,” said Quinlan. “Our goal is to build a team culture that encourages growth, resilience, and confidence—because when the culture is right, the netball naturally follows.”

But the focus isn’t solely on the scoreboard. There’s a strong commitment to nurturing players beyond the court.

“Many of these girls are stepping into a representative environment for the first time,” Marsh added. “We want to give them a glimpse into high-performance pathways, but also ensure the experience is fun, balanced, and positive. We want them to leave feeling inspired, confident, and excited to come back next year.”

Leading the Manawatū Under 14 White team are Dantaye Simpson and Awhina Barrett-Chase, who are equally passionate about creating a safe and empowering space for their athletes to thrive.

“We’re really looking forward to being part of each athlete’s journey,” said Simpson. “Under 14 is such a key age, full of growth and potential. We’re here to challenge and support the girls as they build their confidence, sharpen their skills, and grow both as netballers and young leaders.”

“It’s not just about what happens on court,” added Barrett-Chase. “We want to see them develop as people—confident in themselves and in their ability to contribute to a team.”
