Competition Draws
Woolworths FutureFERNS Competition Overview
The Woolworths FutureFERNS Programme is Netball New Zealand’s official junior netball pathway, designed for tamariki in Years 1–8. Built around the philosophy of “the game that grows with the players,” FutureFERNS introduces and develops fundamental netball skills through fun, age‑appropriate, and inclusive game formats.
Across the season, players experience a supportive environment focused on enjoyment, confidence building, and skill development. Modified rules, smaller-sided games, and lots of ball touches ensure every child gets meaningful opportunities to pass, catch, shoot, and be involved.
The programme progresses through four structured stages, offering formats tailored to each age group’s physical, cognitive, and social development. This approach supports not only netball skill growth but also wider physical literacy—helping players build motivation, competence, and a lifelong love for being active.
FutureFERNS competitions are delivered by local Netball Centres and endorsed providers, with seasons typically running 6–10 weeks depending on age group. Coaches and supporters are encouraged to embrace the FutureFERNS philosophy of player‑centred learning, positive experiences, and equal opportunity for all young athletes.
The Woolworths partnership strengthens this kaupapa by supporting healthier, happier communities and investing in the next generation of netballers across Aotearoa.
